HOUSTON (Dec. 15, 2025) – BWC Terminals (BWC) is proud to announce it has been
named an honoree for the 2026 Houston Business Journal’s Community Leadership
Awards, a distinction that recognizes organizations whose initiatives have meaningfully
improved lives across Greater Houston through civic leadership, philanthropy, and
purpose-driven engagement.
The Community Leadership Awards celebrate companies that demonstrate a deep
commitment to social responsibility, a value at the core of BWC’s culture. Through its
signature Because We Care initiative and long-standing partnerships with local nonprofits,
BWC has prioritized programs that uplift veterans, strengthen local families, and open
career pathways for underserved youth.
“BWC is passionate in our belief that being a good corporate citizen means investing in the
people and local organizations that strengthen the communities in which we operate,” said
Adam Smith, president and CEO of BWC Terminals. “We are honored by this recognition
from the Houston Business Journal, which is a reflection of our employees, partners, and
various non-profit organizations who make this important work possible.”
Community Impact Through “Because We Care”
Launched in 2020, Because We Care is BWC’s signature community engagement platform,
anchored by two annual fundraising events: the Because We Care Charity Golf Tournament
and the Because We Care Sporting Clay Shoot. Together, these events have raised
significant funds for Houston-area organizations, including Combined Arms, Different Day
Foundation, local schools, and BWC’s Employee First Fund, which helps team members
facing unforeseen personal crises.
Investing in Houston’s Future Workforce
BWC has also partnered with Genesys Works Houston for six years, providing paid
internships, professional skills training, and mentorship to high-potential high school
students from underserved communities. Inspired by the success of this partnership, the
company has expanded its internship program to include students from the Cristo Rey
Network, creating additional opportunities for young people to gain real-world experience
and pursue long-term career success.
BWC and all the 2026 Community Leadership Awards honorees will be recognized at an
event on April 8, 2026, hosted by the Houston Business Journal.
