PASCAGOULA, Miss. (WLOX) – Dirt is being turned at the site of the new BWC Terminals facility.
BWC is a Texas-based company that specializes in handling bulk liquid products. The company will partner with the Chevron refinery, acting as a middleman to help store and distribute fuel to consumers.
At max capacity, BWC’s CEO Adam Smith says the company will be able to get up to 5 million barrels, or 210 million gallons of fuel.
“Our goal is to reduce the supply chain headaches that might be faced by our customers, such as Chevron and the Pascagoula refinery,” said Smith. “We will make their operations more efficient and allow them to grow even though they may not have the available space to do that.”
The facility is being built at the old Mississippi Phosphates property, which has been unoccupied since 2014. The Environmental Protection Agency placed the site on the Superfund National Priorities List in 2018, overseeing the cleanup of contaminants.
With BWC Terminals moving in, 25 high-wage jobs will be a part of the first phase of construction, bringing business to unused land.
“Right now, we have up to 5,000 people from Harrison, Hancock, Stone, and Pearl River counties who come in every day for a high-paying career,” said Mary Martha Henson, the Deputy Director of the Jackson County Economic Development Foundation. “Their paycheck comes from here, but they spend it in their local economies across the coast. Jackson County truly has a regional impact, and this is another example of what it does for the coast economy.”
BWC’s CEO says the first phase of the facility should be complete by next fall.
