The AEU Safety Awards program recognizes the strongest safety programs
in the maritime industry
HOUSTON (June 24, 2026) – BWC Terminals (BWC) today announced that it has been
awarded a 2025 AEU Safety Award for the company’s strong commitment to safety in the
workplace. This is BWC’s second consecutive year to receive the award.
The American Equity Underwriters, Inc., the leading provider of workers’ compensation for
waterfront employers, presents the AEU Safety Awards each year to its best-performing
members nationwide.
BWC’s Health, Safety, Environment, and Quality (HSEQ) policy is fundamental to the
sustainability of the company’s operations. Its systems, policies, and procedures address
both routine and emergency situations to effectively manage risks, threats, and incidents.
Safety is integrated into the company culture through ongoing training and the
empowerment of employees, and it is reinforced by management to achieve industryleading results.
“Winning this award once again highlights something deeper than just a robust safety
program; it showcases a culture that our people embrace every day,” said Adam Smith,
president and CEO of BWC Terminals. “At BWC, safety isn’t merely a policy we adhere to;
it’s an integral part of our identity.
From our frontline employees to our leadership team,
everyone shares the same commitment to look out for one another and ensure everyone
goes home safe. This is the standard we hold ourselves to, and receiving this recognition
truly reflects how seriously our entire team takes this commitment.”
Eligibility for the awards is based on the frequency and severity of workers’ compensation
incidents for the prior calendar year, as well as safety-related metrics determined by AEU’s
loss control team.
“This year’s winners truly are the safest in the industry,” said Jason Lake, director of loss
control at AEU. “The commitment of their management teams, supervisors, safety staff,
and employees all combine to create safety programs that are worthy of this recognition.”
